Are ice barriers required for DuPage County ? Yes

While no formal online code regarding ice barriers was located, Mohammed Ansari, Plans Examiner of Dupage County, IL confirmed they are required. (Per email 12/27/19.)

In response to an inquiry as to whether adjacent elevations need residing due to WRB requirement for a 6″ joint overlap. When repairing more than 150 sq. ft. of siding, the entire exterior wall system must be resided and brought up to code.

We follow the Dupage County Building Code for 1 & 2 family residential.
Per section 8-103.3 of our code when 150 sq.ft. or more of the existing siding is damaged the
entire exterior shall be constructed as new construction. In the Dupage County Building Code:
House wrap is required and shall follow manufacturer specs for installation.  Per our code, fasteners
to be plastic cap nails.

We were unable to locate any formal adoption of a residential code by DuPge County, IL. We reached out to the department and received no response regarding this matter. Some jurisdictions adopt the IRC by way of reference in the administrative chapters of the IBC. This could be the case for DuPage County.

101.2 Scope. The provisions of this code shall apply to the construction, alteration, movement, enlargement, replacement, repair, equipment, use and occupancy, location, maintenance, removal and demolition of every building or structure or any appurtenances connected or attached to such buildings or structures.

Exception:

Detached one- and two-family dwellings and multiple single-family dwellings (townhouses) not more than three stories above grade plane in height with a separate means of egress and their accessory structures shall comply with the International Residential Code.
