The New Goliath: Contributors and Drivers of Excessive Settlements and Verdicts

Thu May 29 @ 11:00 am - 12:15 pm CDT

Free

Presenter: Chris Turney, Partner at Turney LG

Social inflation in general liability incurred losses can be demonstrated by the disproportionate increase in loss costs over recent years. This webinar will explore the potential contributors and drivers of this change, from anchoring and Reptile Theory to “Spike Valuations” to verdict shaming and a culture of safetyism. Whether the cause is direct or indirect, intentional or unintentional, this webinar will guide attendees through what to expect– and how to push back. After this webinar, attendees will be able to:

  • properly define what “social inflation” is;
  • identify the recent leading contributors to inflated settlements and verdicts; and
  • implement key push back strategies to implement with defense counsel to reduce the risk of social inflation.

CONTINUING EDUCATION APPROVALS: This webinar has been approved for 1 hour of CE credit for adjusters in Texas, Delaware, West Virginia, & Oklahoma, and for 1 hour MCLE credit in Illinois.
