The course “Equipment Restoration” is designed to enhance an adjuster’s knowledge
and understanding of the restoration of electro-mechanical equipment contaminated
by water or smoke. The module is presented by Frank Seter, BSEE, IAAI-CFI, CFEI,
CVFI, President of Zodiac Equipment Restoration, Inc.

This course begins
with a discussion of what types of equipment are candidates for restoration and
why. The presenter then describes eight types of equipment that can be restored
after water or smoke contamination, including computers, phone systems, office
equipment, restaurant equipment and industrial equipment. Next, he reviews
several temporary and emergency responses used to mitigate contamination to
equipment and machinery following a smoke or water loss. The presenter also
explains the different permanent restoration methods used to restore contaminated
equipment and machinery. He emphasizes the importance of communication, safety
and prioritizing the items to be restored and discusses common onsite and offsite
restoration issues. In the last two sections, the course demonstrates how large
restoration projects can be effectively resolved using the information and
methods discussed in this module.

After completing the course, the viewer
should be able to …

identify different types of electro-mechanical
equipment that can be restored after water or smoke exposure; provide examples of
various temporary or emergency responses used to mitigate damage to equipment and
machinery caused by water and smoke contamination; describe the four main
permanent restoration methods; distinguish between calibration and certification
of equipment and machinery; detail a plan for resolving warranty related issues;
determine when consultation with the original equipment manufacturer is needed;
address common restoration issues including the lack of communication and
prioritization of work; explain frequent issues related to onsite and offsite
restoration; outline the process for handling a large restoration project
involving contaminated office equipment; and, identify issues that arise when
food service equipment is being restored.

The course is designed for
insurance professionals and vendors working in the area of property adjustment.
