Amicus Curiae Support Request

Criteria for Requests

· Significant Issue. The question presented must be of significant interest to, and should bear an impact to the property and casualty claims industry.
· Subject matter. The case and issues in dispute should involve coverage issues involving first and third party coverage or claims resolution issues.
· PLRB/LIRB Membership. PLRB membership is not a requirement to request amicus curiae support.
· Scope of Support. The PLRB and LIRB do not write amicus curiae briefs. Nor do the PLRB and LIRB fund legal fees for the preparations of such briefs. PLRB and LIRB merely serve to communicate the opportunity and need for the support to the industry. Preparation of the briefs must be funded by companies and other associations.
· Requests for Support. Any request for support begins with completion of this form.
· Appellate Appearance. Any amicus curiae brief prepared and filed must be submitted in the name of the attorney who writes the brief and the company or organization funding the effort. PLRB and LIRB shall not be named in any amicus curiae brief.
· Liaison: The attorney requesting support must be willing to act as liaison with those interested in submitting briefs. This includes, but is not limited to, providing copies of important documents such as court opinions for the case, important motions, briefs, and procedural information, and keeping participants abreast of developments.
