Downers Grove –Attorney Sonia Copeskey recently jointed the Property Loss Research Bureau, a nonprofit organization that serves the insurance industry, as database counsel, a newly created position.  She most recently served as a contract attorney at Allstate Insurance, where she was employed for four and a half years.

 PLRB Database Counsel

Working in Allstate's protection law department, Copeskey did compliance and risk assessment assignments and was a member of the employment benefits team.  She said insurance law is a dynamic specialization that requires frequent reviews of case law and new developments.  “It’s really become a niche. It’s constantly changing,” Copeskey noted.

As database counsel, Copeskey will review and update the PLRB case law database so that members can access the most up-to-date legal information relevant to their ongoing claims.

Copeskey is a 2007 graduate of The John Marshall Law School. She graduated from Marquette University in 2003 with an English and political science double major and a minor in Spanish.

While at John Marshall, she served on the John Marshall Law Review.  She also was an intern and law clerk for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Chicago, where she worked on the creation of a Medicaid anti-fraud program.

Copeskey said she looks forward to working with the PLRB database and PLRB members.  “As a trade association, we’re working with all the insurance companies. I feel like PLRB is at the forefront of the industry,” she said.

Copeskey lives in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago with her husband.

The Liability Insurance Research Bureau, an association affiliated with the PLRB, also recently hired a database counsel, Matt Kohnke.  He will be working with the LIRB coverage database.

The Property Loss Research Bureau and the Liability Insurance Research Bureau are not-for-profit associations of property and casualty insurance companies.  They are located in Downers Grove, Illinois.
