- As the Liability Insurance Research
Bureau continues to expand its services, the LIRB team welcomed a new team
member in late March. Matt Kohnke, an
attorney with a background in insurance-related legal matters, joined the LIRB
as database counsel, a newly created position.

“I am responsible
for maintaining the accuracy and quality of information contained on the LIRB’s
database,” said Kohnke. “Given my strong interest in insurance issues and legal
research and writing, I believed I would be a great fit in this position.”
Kohnke has an
LL.M., a Master of Laws degree in energy and environmental law that he earned
from Tulane University Law School. He is
a 2008 graduate of Drake University Law School.
He completed his undergraduate studies in history and political science
at Valparaiso University.
His past
experience includes work as an assistant claims adjuster for EMC Insurance
Companies in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. It was this position that initially
motivated Kohnke to one day pursue a legal career focusing on the insurance industry.
In the fall
of 2010, he went to work as a litigation associate for a Chicago law firm,
where he concentrated on worker’s compensation defense cases.
Both the
Liability Insurance Research Bureau and the Property Loss Research Bureau,
twin, national nonprofit organizations based in Downers Grove, Illinois, offer
coverage information to members. And both maintain databases containing
pertinent case law.
The Property Loss
Research Bureau, an association affiliated with the LIRB, also recently hired a
database counsel, Sonia Copeskey. She
will be working with the PLRB’s coverage database.
Kohnke and
his wife live in the Chicago suburbs.
The
Property Loss Research Bureau and the Liability Insurance Research Bureau are
not-for-profit associations of property and casualty insurance companies.
They are located in Downers Grove, Illinois.
