Settlement Presentation Success with Homeowners Claims

One of 100 Educational Sessions
2016 Claims Conference

April 17 - 20, 2016

A skill that is a critical part of adjusting a Homeowners Insurance claim is effectively presenting the suggested settlement to the insured, as well as the contractor(s). The policyholder expects to be treated fairly and to be made whole. The contactor expects to receive funds to properly repair the damages. The adjuster must weigh the coverages, code requirements, and local labor and supply costs. It is a challenge.

"Settlement Presentation Success with Homeowners Claims" is one of the professional development sessions offered at the Property & Liability Resource Bureau's 2016 Claims Conference, April 17 to 20, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas. Registration is open to property and casualty insurance professionals who work for insurance companies.

The educational session will be presented by Jeff Taxier, Education and Training Manager, American Technologies, Inc., Tucson, Arizona, and Jimmy Young, Catastrophe Claims Manager, Auto Enterprise Group, Coppel, Texas.

At its conclusion, Claims Conference attendees who attended will be able to:

  • Effectively present a property claim estimate to insureds and contractors;
  • Evaluate common errors when presenting an estimate for settlement;
  • Create an estimate template/job aid to assist in resolving property losses; and
  • Use the "tell, show, retell" presentation approach with an insured and a contractor.

The PLRB Claims Conference will offer over 100 property and casualty claims topics for the continued professional development of claims adjusters. Many of the educational sessions will be approved for adjuster continuing education credit.

As part of the Claims Conference, the 2016 Insurance Services Expo will be held Monday, April 18 and Tuesday, April 19 in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. Nearly 300 exhibitors will be there with products and services to assist insurers in providing claims services to policyholders.

The Expo showcases skilled national and regional providers of property and casualty adjustment and restoration services, such as claims management software. Attendees are invited to enjoy a complimentary lunch in the Expo hall on both Monday and Tuesday of the Conference. They will have an opportunity to enhance their professional development by connecting with a large network of subject matter experts and industry partners during the lunch break.
