Animal Liability Claims on PLRB's Casualty Campus
2016 PLRB Claims Conference
San Antonio, Texas

The Casualty Campus of the PLRB 2016 Claims Conference features professional development for casualty adjusters with workshops facilitated by insurance professionals. Sessions available range from uninsured motorist claims to high exposure claims.

The PLRB 2016 Claims Conference will be held April 17 to 20 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio. Registration is open to property and casualty insurance professionals who work for or represent insurance companies.

One of the 26 casualty campus workshops available is "Animal Liability Claims," presented by Christina A. Culver, JD, Thompson Coe Cousins & Irons of Houston, Texas, and Jill Warren, JD, Allstate Insurance Group, Houston, Texas.

At the conclusion of the session, Claims Conference attendees who attended will be able to:

  • Identify theories of liability arising out of injury caused by animals, and describe various defenses;
  • Analyze approaches to evaluating damages for bodily injury;
  • Describe the measure of damages for harm to a pet; and
  • Distinguish claims that are defensible and claims that should be paid.

"There are nearly 100 educational sessions at the 2016 Claims Conference covering a wide array of claim challenges and concerns," said Scott Powell, Vice President, Educational and Technical Services, Property & Liability Resource Bureau. "The PLRB has applied for adjuster continuing education credit in key states. Those will be listed on the PLRB Claims Conference website at as the approvals are received."

The 2016 Insurance Services Expo will be held Monday, April 18 and Tuesday, April 19 in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. Over 300 exhibitors will be there with products and services to assist insurers in providing claims services to policyholders.

"The Expo showcases skilled national and regional providers of casualty adjustment and restoration services, such as accident reconstruction" said Powell. "Attendees are invited to enjoy a complimentary lunch in the Expo hall on both Monday and Tuesday of the conference. They will have an opportunity to enhance their professional development by connecting with a large network of subject matter experts and industry partners during the lunch break."
