Handling High Exposure Casualty Claims Webinar

Hot Topics from the Claims Conference

The next webinar in the Hot Topics from the Claims Conference, "Handling High Exposure Casualty Claims" will be offered Thursday, June 9, 2016, at 11:00 a.m.

The Education Department staff of the Property & Liability Resource Bureau (PLRB) selects some of the best sessions with the hottest claims topics each year at the Claims Conference and offers them as part of the popular webinar series Hot Topics from the Claims Conference. These are typically sessions that have received high ratings from attendees at the Claims Conference.

"We know that some of the adjusters working for PLRB member companies are unable to attend the Claims Conference," said Scott Powell, Vice President, Educational and Technical Services for the PLRB. "The Hot Topics from the Claims Conference brings modified versions of some of the best presentations to them via the webinar."

"Adjusters know a high exposure casualty claim when they see it. Whether it is the type or severity of the injury, the number of plaintiffs, the amount of dollar damages, the jurisdiction, or all of these," continued Powell, "a high exposure claims needs to be approached with extra care and attention to detail."

Webinar participants will learn to:

  • Assess approaches for handling high-value liability claims and suits from factual investigation, to settlement or trial;
  • Assess how much and what type of involvement the adjuster should have during litigation;
  • Recognize and discuss issues surrounding the retention and use of experts; and
  • Explore effective approaches to identify and put together reasonable, good faith offers, or decide when a case should go to trial.

"Handling High Exposure Casualty Claims" will be presented by litigation claims attorney Sarah Zumbahlen, who regularly manages outside counsel in high exposure injury claims for Illinois Casualty Company, and Julie Murzyn, J.D., O'Neill, McFadden and Willet, LLP.

"Both are seasoned PLRB presenters," Powell said. "They are looking forward to exploring with the attendees ways to creatively approach the high exposure casualty claim."

The webinar is available exclusively to employees of PLRB member insurance and Affiliate member companies.
