Teresa Herman, Senior Inside Claim Specialist for the Safeco National Catastrophe Team, was named an Outstanding Claims Professional by the Property & Liability Resource Bureau. The award was presented during the General Session of the 2016 Claims Conference in San Antonio, Texas.
"Teresa has demonstrated exceptional leadership and is a mentor of new employees," said Thomas W. Mallin, President and CEO, PLRB, when presenting the award to Herman. "She is a leader whose expertise and extra efforts have resulted in her being assigned to and volunteering for a number of extra roles which contribute significantly to the success of her department."
"She provides initial training of employees," continued Mallin, "coaches them during their employment, and holds them accountable for property claims handling. She is often found at someone else's desk, providing her claims handling expertise and guidance with how to proceed on a more challenging claim."
"Teresa is the go-to person in the department for challenging questions and training issues," note Mallin. "She has mastered Safeco's claims systems, developed training materials on how to use them, and facilitated multiple courses on the system to bring everyone up-to-speed.
She was nominated for the award by her peers at the Los Angeles, California, office of Liberty Mutual/Safeco Insurance.
