Peter Balingit to Address National Tornado Summit, February 24
GIS and Claims: The role that weather and mapping play in the insurance claims process
Insurers respond to thousands of claims each year for damages caused by tornadoes in the United States. The insurance claim dollars paid to policyholders following tornadoes contribute significantly to the quick recovery of communities.
Peter Balingit, Director, Catastrophe Services, Property & Liability Resource Bureau, Downers Grove, Illinois, will address a breakout session of the National Tornado Summit, February 24, 2015, at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. A meteorologist and GIS Professional, he will focus on GIS and Claims: The role that weather and mapping play in the insurance claims process.
During the session Balingit will explore how claims departments can utilize Esri and ArcGIS server mapping solutions and the impact GIS can have on the claims process. He will demonstrate that not only can real-time, historical data predict potential property claims, but it can also enable insurers to validate a claim or map areas of damage to better respond to catastrophes.
The National Tornado Summit, February 23 - 25, 2015, was organized by the Oklahoma Insurance Department following the catastrophic May 20, 2013, tornado that struck Moore, Oklahoma. That was one of 56 tornadoes to touchdown in Oklahoma in 2013. The department created the Tornado Summit to bring together the nation's experts on tornadoes, emergency managers, state insurance departments, and insurance industry catastrophe claims experts to continue their education on these violent storms. Over 700 are registered for the Summit, which also features a two-day trade show along with sessions on crisis and disaster communication, business and home safety, disaster stress, and reinsurance.
Registration information for the 2015 National Tornado Summit is available here.
