Current information about severe weather, earthquakes, major fires and explosions, as well as technological mishaps such as hazardous materials incidents are regularly sent to members by e-mail and posted on our password secured Internet site.  Available exclusively for PLRB members, the information can be used to quickly identify where property-damaging events have occurred and the extent of the damage. Information is updated 24-hours a day, 7-days a week.  Companies should click here and then click on PASSWORDS along the top navigation bar for a username and password.

The following information is available from Catastrophe Services:

Severe Storm Forecast Map – A color map is available on the website each morning showing where severe weather is likely to occur during the day. The map is updated during the day, as necessary. Color-coding of risk areas makes it easy to quickly see where any threats may exist for the next 24-hours. Member companies can follow storms as they develop, on radar and by satellite, through PLRB's Catastrophe Services website.

Did it hail on the date of loss as claimed?
Loss managers can quickly verify details of  a claim by searching
Catastrophe Services’ online Historical Database.   A searchable database of all PLRB Severe Storm and Occurrence
Summary information from January 1, 1993, to the present.

Tropical Weather – PLRB Catastrophe Services monitors developing storms in the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico. Information is updated continuously  and posted on the website.  When a storm system threatens U.S. interests, an e-mail message called the PLRB Alert is sent to Members to notify them when new  information is available on the website.

Catastrophe Services provides the latest forecast in text and geocoded formats, along with a tracking map and interpreted satellite images of the storm’s progress.

As the storm gets closer to landfall, the frequency of bulletins increases. When land fall is imminent, the information is upgraded to include counties, cities, and ZIP Codes likely to be affected along the projected path of the storm.

Pacific Ocean storms are also monitored by Catastrophe Services to determine if they will affect Hawaii. The above services are also adapted to storms that threaten Hawaii.

Catastrophe Bulletins - Summaries of important coverage information pertinent to the state(s)where the disaster has occurred are prepared by PLRB’s coverage attorneys. These bulletins are posted on the website and e-mailed as soon as possible following the event, often within 24-hours.
